Individual control loops are configured and tested to the software design specifications. Software quality standards lead to consistent, correct, maintainable control systems. • Function block, function chart, ladder, and structured text languages • Engineering workstation configuration and productivity tools • Alarm management logic, summaries, and indications • Displays, faceplates, screen navigation, dynamics, trends • Regulatory and advanced control loops • Process interlocks, alarms, first-outs, and resets • Batch management and phase logic • Process historian, alarm archives, reports • Foreign device interfaces • Asset management and maintenance system Automation Services Previous Next

  • Jet Fire : Terms and Acronyms

Acronyms & Terms Glossary <- More Definitions Jet Fire A fire resulting from the combustion of a fuel continuously released with some significant momentum in a particular direction. A jet fire is distinguished from a flash fire by its sense of direction and continuous duration. Jet fires are considered during facility siting studies or consequence modeling conducted by aeSolutions' experienced modelers. Modeling helps companies identify the flammable and/or toxic consequences and impacts to receptors due to a chemical release. • PHA : Terms and Acronyms

Acronyms & Terms Glossary <- More Definitions PHA Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) is a process for analyzing hazards with hazardous chemicals. The goal is to recognize potential causes and evaluate the consequences of hazardous chemical releases. PHA studies are the core of process safety and risk management programs. They help companies identify hazard scenarios that could lead to a release of highly hazardous chemicals that can cause negative impact on people, the environment, and property. PHA also is required by OSHA's PSM (29 CFR 1910.119) and EPA's RMP (40 CFR 68) regulations in the US and process safety and risk management regulations around the world. Types of PHAs include: - Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) - What if - What-If/Checklist Analysis - Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) - Dust Hazard Assessment - Control System Hazard and Operability (CHAZOP) Our Services Control System Migrations | Procurement Specification & Vendor Selection aeSolutions discusses the complexities of control system migrations with a focus on procurement specifications and vendor selection. • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) : Terms and Acronyms

Acronyms & Terms Glossary <- More Definitions Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) An organization that implemented Section 112(r) of the 1990 Clean Air Act amendments and requires facilities that use extremely hazardous substances to develop a Risk Management Plan (RMP) per 40 CFR 68.150 to 68.185. aeSolutions has the knowledge and experience to assist with all elements of RMP development and implementation required by the EPA RMP Standard, 40 CFR 68, from high level gap and applicability assessments to complete RMP site program development, including drafting procedures and creating mechanical integrity programs. • Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH) : Terms and Acronyms

Acronyms & Terms Glossary <- More Definitions Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH) Immediately dangerous to life or health (IDLH) means an atmospheric concentration of any toxic, corrosive or asphyxiant substance that poses an immediate threat to life or would cause irreversible or delayed adverse health effects or would interfere with an individual's ability to escape from a dangerous atmosphere. IDLH concentrations are considered for endpoint distances during facility siting studies or consequence modeling conducted by aeSolutions' experienced modelers. • IPL Independence : Terms and Acronyms

Acronyms & Terms Glossary <- More Definitions IPL Independence A protection layer is considered an independent protection layer (IPL) if it is effective independent of the occurrence or consequences of the initiating event, another IPL that is part of the scenario, and is unaffected by conditions that cause another IPL to fail. During hazard reviews protection layers implemented in both the BPCS (e.g., the DCS) and SIS are identified. Determining if different protection layers are truly independent so that they are credited properly in the risk analysis can be complex.
